Sausage Party, Racism, and Faith: The Christian Right’s Double Standard

Double Standard: A rule or principle that is unfairly applied in different ways to different people or groups.

I’d heard that the Christian Right can be racist and protective of its faith in a higher power but, until now, I hadn’t seen that in action.

From Movieguide’s review of Sausage Party (2016):

It gets away with some funny jokes about racial, ethnic stereotypes. For example, the Chinese food items play into ethnic stereotypes… …destroy politically correct, left-oriented limitations on comedy… …every imaginable racial and ethnic group takes a hit… Any sense of faith is mocked. … This unnecessary, callous stab at faith mars SAUSAGE PARTY beyond redemption.

Movieguide:

A stab at faith is “unnecessary” and “callous,” but you cheer racial and ethnic stereotypes by saying that such stereotypes “destroy politically correct, left-oriented limitations on comedy.”

It’s fine to mock ethnic groups like the Chinese, but mocking faith is a bridge too far?
