Are Female-Led Big-Budget Films An Anomaly? No

Anomaly: Something that deviates from what is standard, normal, or expected.

This line, from an article about Ghostbusters in Slate, is why I am writing this post:

…we still live in a world where the mere existence of a female-led big-budget film is an anomaly…

Big-budget movies with a female lead are an anomaly? I don’t think they are.

This is why:

Aliens (1986)
Prometheus (2012)
V for Vendetta (2005)
Sucker Punch (2011)
Resident Evil (2002)
Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)
Gravity (2013)
Lucy (2014)
Evil Dead (2013)

To name a few…

My point is: There are a lot of big-budget movies where the lead is female.

So don’t worry: Just because people don’t like Ghostbusters doesn’t mean that filmmakers are going to forget that there are human beings who have XX chromosomes.

I know it might seem like you have to do your duty as a Social Justice Warrior and give Sony your money smash the Patriarchy, but you don’t.

Because you have free will. You can do whatever you want.
