A Gorilla Is Dead

When I heard the story of Harambe, the Gorilla that was shot dead in order to save a boy’s life, the first thing I thought of was this:


I find it insulting that the same rallying cry —  “Justice for…” — that was used for a black man is being used for a gorilla.

First it was “Justice for Trayvon.”

And now it’s “Justice for Harambe.”

As if the loss of one is equal to the loss of the other.


Comparing a human being to an animal is like comparing an apple to an orange.

If you say “Human beings and animals are the same,” then I have two questions:

  1. Do you want to eat your boyfriend/husband/one-night stand?
  2. Do you want to be eaten by your girlfriend/wife/one-night stand?
