I enjoy being online.
I feel there is so much good I can do, not just for myself but for others too, online.
As a result, whenever I feel pissed after interacting with a person online, I’m not the kind of person to just get off my laptop and do something else. Get offline the moment a conversation takes a blood-boiling turn? Unthinkable!
Whenever my online interactions make me want to punch a wall, here’s four things that I do to regain my composure:
Listen to “Flagpole Sitta” by Harvey Danger.
If my anger is a balloon that is in danger of popping, “Flagpole Sitta” is like a pin that pokes a hole in the balloon, letting the air out in short, controlled bursts.
I’m not sick but I’m not well
And I’m so hot
‘Cause I’m in Hell
Listen to track 1 on the Only Yesterday soundtrack.
There’s something about this piece of music that makes me think “Who I am — my past, my present, my future — is bigger than any disagreement that happens online.”
Listen to my favorite piece of music.
